At the National Convention Centre Canberra (NCCC), we bring events to life — from creative gala dinners to large-scale, multi-day conferences, all supported by exceptional service and catering.

We’re currently seeking an Assistant Event Services Manager to join our Event Services team. Reporting to the Event Services Manager, this is a hands-on leadership role supporting the operational management, planning and delivery of conferences and events across the Centre.

You’ll help lead our Event Services team, coordinate day-to-day operations, maintain high service and presentation standards, manage departmental costs and support the delivery of seamless experiences for our clients and guests.

Every day is different, but you’ll mostly be:

  • Assisting with the operational management, planning and delivery of conferences, events and functions across the NCCC
  • Coordinating day-to-day Event Services operations to maximise guest satisfaction, service quality and departmental performance
  • Ensuring events are accurately executed and delivered in accordance with Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), while maintaining data integrity
  • Supporting operational management across Event Services, Facilities and Stores in line with Fire Life Safety, HACCP, WHS and Security requirements
  • Working with the Event Services Manager to manage departmental budgets and costs, with a focus on wages, beverage costs, linen and operating supplies
  • Supporting departmental revenue, GOP and P&L performance and identifying opportunities to drive incremental revenue
  • Maintaining and using NCCC and IHG operating systems including MICROS, FutureLog, Shiji and other operational tools
  • Assisting with the management and operation of the NCCC car park
  • Ensuring function rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas and storerooms are maintained and presented to a high standard
  • Working closely with Stores, Kitchen, Events, Facilities, Finance and Maintenance teams to support seamless event delivery
  • Providing leadership, direction and support to Event Services team members, including recruitment, onboarding, training and succession planning
  • Supporting the development and delivery of comprehensive team training programs
  • Promoting team engagement, development and a positive workplace culture
  • Communicating relevant safety information to team members and supporting the identification, assessment and management of workplace risks
  • Ensuring team members receive appropriate induction, refresher training and supervision in relation to workplace health and safety responsibilities
  • Supporting and promoting employee health and wellbeing initiatives across the department

What We’re Looking For:

  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience within large-scale events, conferencing, hospitality or food and beverage operations
  • Strong operational knowledge and the ability to coordinate multiple events and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • A strong understanding of workplace health and safety, HACCP, Fire Life Safety and operational compliance requirements
  • Experience working with event, point-of-sale or operational systems such as MICROS, FutureLog and Shiji would be advantageous
  • Commercial awareness with an understanding of wage control, operational costs, revenue and departmental performance
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail, particularly when working with BEOs and event requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments
  • Strong leadership skills and a genuine interest in developing, training and supporting team members
  • A guest-focused mindset with a passion for creating exceptional event experiences
  • The confidence and flexibility to work in a dynamic operational environment where no two days are the same

You'll be rewarded for your hard work with a suite of benefits that supports you and your family's wellbeing, including:

  • Paid Birthday Leave
  • Hotel Perks like accommodation and Food & Beverage discounts
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Proactive health days and flexible work options
